Do you want GMOs labeled?
Colorado & Oregon are about to vote on state initiatives that will determine the future of labeling in this country. Already Vermont, Maine & Connecticut have passed labeling laws. Next up is Oregon & Colorado. Would you like to help us get out the vote…especially in those two states? We need your help NOW!
The truth is that our voices are stronger than the voices of the biotechnology and big food companies. And collectively our voices are trusted by millions all across the United States. But don’t forget, politics are local and here is what is happening at the local level in Oregon & Colorado. The big chemical and junk food companies that manufacture genetically engineered foods have spent millions in Oregon and Colorado trying to confuse voters with the following FALSE claims:
- Labeling genetically engineered foods will raise grocery prices. Not true.
- The measures are not written well. Not true.
- The “exemptions” don’t cover enough food and many other effective untrue statements that dizzy the uninformed voter. Not true.
The fact of the matter is that the language of the Oregon and Colorado initiatives have been carefully drafted to protect farmers and businesses, comply with and complement existing regulations, and establish clear and fair rules for labeling genetically engineered products. All genetically engineered foods will be labeled. So again raw and packaged food sold stores must disclose if they are produced with genetic engineering. Sounds simple, right?
The truth is labeling GMOs is simple. It is so simple that sixty-four other countries, including all of Europe and Japan, require labeling. U.S. food companies already label it in those countries. They should do the same for us!
Those of you that have been watching the GMO labeling issue know that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen these companies spending millions to keep consumers in the dark. They do it in any state that attempts a transparency campaign. These corporate interests have research that tells them if consumers know that the product contains GMOs they will reject it. Therefore junk food brands like Pepsi, Coke, Smucker’s, Kraft, Land O’Lakes and General Mills are willing to spend millions against your right to know about GMOs.
Would you like to help us get the word out to combat the millions they are spending? Join us for a twitter rally on Thursday October 30th from 6-7pm PST in support of labeling GMOs and to amplify our message in hopes to reach more voters in Oregon and Colorado.
